THE PARATEXTS IN THE COLLECTION "THE RAIN LOVER BROWSES THE BOOK OF WINTER" BY FAROUK MUSTAFA AS A MODEL

Route Education and Social Science Journal

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effectiveness and importance of paratexts in forming a solid bridge of textual relationships between these paratexts and the main text (central text). It does so by revealing the independence and specificity of each paratext, its importance, and its function. Then, it highlights the solidarity relationship between them and the central text, and their importance in determining the nature of text formation, especially the surrounding texts, and their role in enticing the reader to delve into the intricacies of the text, in addition to revealing the author's intent.
The research sample was selected from prose texts, specifically the literary article, due to the importance of this type as one of the most prevalent texts at all times, its quick reception due to its structural nature, and its significant role in influencing the audience of readers. The articles of Farouk Mustafa are particularly noted for their structural characteristics, which led us to select the collection "The Rain Lover Browses the Book of Winter: Kirkuk Writings" as a model for the practical material.
We have come up with important results, including that Farouk Mustafa was aware of the interactive and solidaristic relationship between the surrounding texts and the central text. Each threshold had its own specificity in arousing the reader's interest to continue reading, in addition to pointing to the main idea.
