THE QUR’ANIC FOUNDATION OF THE ESSENTIAL OBJECTIVES OF ISLAMIC SHARI’AH (PRESERVATION OF LIFE AND REASON) IN SURAH AL-MA’IDAH (THE TABLE SPREAD): AN INDUCTIVE STUDY

This research explores the Qur'anic foundation of the necessities within Maqasid al-Shari'ah, primarily the preservation of life and reason in Surah Al-Ma’idah (The Table Spread). It employs an inductive method that aims to trace the Qur’anic Ayat that reflect these Islamic objectives, providing an explanation of their legislative and Maqasidic implications. The study also demonstrates the theoretical framework of Maqasid al-Shari’ah by defining the necessary terms of these Maqasids and showing their subdivisions. The study also highlights the Qur’anic foundation of the objective of preserving life through the Ayat that prohibit murder, aggression, prescribe retribution, and emphasize the preservation of human life. It also explores the Qur’anic foundation of preserving reason through the Ayat that prohibit intoxicating substances, showing their effects on both the individual and society, in addition to the legislations that aim to preserve the human intellect. Last but not least, The Table Spread includes obvious foundations for these Islamic objectives (preservation of life and reason) and the fulfillment of the higher objectives of Shari’ah.
