HADITHS ABOUT THE PROPHET'S (PEACE AND BLESSINGS BE UPON HIM) DRINKING AND DRINKING -AN OBJECTIVE STUDY-

Route Education and Social Science Journal

Özet

This research explores the profound wisdom and health benefits embedded in the Sunnah (practice) of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) concerning drinking etiquette and preferred beverages. The study includes two key aspects of the Prophet's drinking practices. Firstly, he would drink in three sips (breaths), taking the vessel away from his mouth after each sip to breathe. This method is medically superior as it effectively quenches thirst, aids digestion, and reduces strain on the body. Secondly, he prohibited breathing into the vessel to maintain the purity and safety of the drink, preventing the transmission of diseases or anything others might find distasteful. Furthermore, the Prophet (PBUH) primarily drank while seated and discouraged drinking while standing. Although there are instances where he drank standing, this was to demonstrate its permissibility when needed or to clarify that it's not forbidden, with sitting being the preferred and more complete manner. Finally, when in a group, he would always begin by offering the drink to the person on his right. Regarding the Prophet's preferred beverages, the research highlights two main points. His most beloved drink was milk. He also favored sweet, cold water, often requesting it from wells known for their refreshing taste.
