ÖĞRENCİLERİN YABANCI DİL ÖĞRENİMİNE YÖNELİK TUTUMLARININ İNCELENMESİ: AKSARAY ÜNİVERSİTESİ ÖRNEĞİ

Özet

Bu araştırmanın amacı, Aksaray Üniversitesinde öğrenim gören öğrencilerin, öğrenim gördükleri fakülte türüne ve cinsiyetine göre yabancı dil öğrenimine ilişkin tutumlarını incelemektir. Araştırma 2009-2010 eğitim ve öğretim yılında, Aksaray Üniversitesi bünyesinde bulunan İktisadi ve İdari Bilimler Fakültesi, Eğitim Fakültesi, Mühendislik Fakültesi ve Fen-Edebiyat Fakültesi birinci sınıfında öğrenim gören öğrenciler ile yürütülmüştür. Araştırmaya bu fakültelerde öğrenim gören ve tesadüfi örnekleme yolu ile seçilen toplam 457 öğrenci katılmıştır. Katılımcılara Toker (1999)tarafından geliştirilen ‘yabancı dil tutum ölçeği’ uygulanmış, ölçeğe eksiksiz yanıt veren 333 öğrencinin puanları değerlendirmeye alınmıştır. Veriler SPSS 21.0 istatistik programı kullanılarak analiz edilmiş, öğrencilerin cinsiyetlerine ilişkin tutumlarının karşılaştırılmasında t-testi, fakülte türlerine ilişkin tutumlarının değerlendirilmesinde ise, tek yönlü varyans analizi kullanılmıştır. Sonuçta, öğrencilerin yabancı dil öğrenimine ilişkin tutum puanlarının cinsiyet ve öğrenim gördükleri fakülte değişkenleri açısından anlamlı bir fark olduğu ortaya çıkmıştır.

Abstract

This study aims at determining Aksaray University students’ attitudes to foreign language learning and whether there is a significant relation between their gender and the faculties that they study with their attitudes to the language teaching. The study was carried out with the freshmen who attended to the faculties of Aksaray University: Faculty of Economics, Faculty of Education, Faculty of Arts and Science, Faculty of Engineering in 2009-2010 academic year. The population of the present study includes, randomly selected, 457 freshmen from 17 departments at those faculties. The Attitude Scale towards Foreign Languages by Toker (1999) was applied to the students. The scores of 333 students, who answered the questions in the scales entirely, were evaluated. The collected data were analyzed using SPSS 21.0 statistical package program. The data were analyzed using one-way variance analysis (ANOVA) and t-test. According to the findings of the study, there was a significant difference in students’ scores from the attitude scale according to their gender and the faculties they belong to.
